Ishmael

Herman Melville spent some of his life living in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, which is about 40 minutes from Mt. Greylock. It is said that Melville obtained inspiration to write "Moby Dick" from looking at the distant mountain, which, from a certain angle, subtly resembles the image of a whale.

"Lighthouse"

This is the tower at the peak of Mt. Greylock. Originally the tower was intended for the Boston Harbor. Inside the tower is a narrow black spiral staircase. From the top of the tower observers can look several hundred miles to the east across Massachusetts, and several hundred miles to the west across parts of New York.
